Ruffled Wedding Cakes for 2013

VINTAGE themed weddings are still proving popular this year but we have noticed a trend towards more romantic styling.

Brides are keen on incorporating ruffles, and more delicate decoration into their cakes. There has also been more of shift towards less formal styles of cake, more rustic, more laid back.

It seems to reflect the continuing trend for all things DIY as well. People don’t always want everything to look too polished and perfect. They want a more natural feel to things and ruffles, with their inherent imperfections and undulating shapes are a great way to get this.

Colours are still very cool, pale and calm with ivory and creams being favourites. Again people are opting for an understated look with splashes of accent colour rather than cakes that scream opulence and grandeur.

One of our favourite cakes so far and one which we have had orders for several variations of is this ruffled vintage cameo cake below.

The five tier creation is enough to feed around 90 people but combines classical elegance with a tiny bit of bling and some old world, Thirties glamour.

For an even more natural rustic feel this three tier cake with white ruffles, edged with edible gold is really laid back.

The ruffles can be reproduced in any colour and can even be given an ombre effect so the base of the cake starts dark and gradually fades upwards.

We have been sticking to white so far but are looking to introduce more colour in upcoming designs but for now, have a look at these examples from some other lovely cake designers, including the incredibly talented Maggie Austin from across the pond!
